Recommended colours for walls and interior designing for households and workplaces according to FENG SHUI
APPROPRIATELY SELECTED COLOURS STIMULATE INTERIORS IN A DESIRED WAY AND FOSTERS CERTAIN FUNCTIONS
Hall, vestibule, or porch – they are supposed to welcome your guests, make them feel happy, and encourage to enter the house. These rooms should not be grim, dark, and overwhelming.
Recommended colours: shades of white, light azure, pink, light green, olive green, and pastel colours and shades in general.
Recommended products and effects are listed below.
Not recommended colours: brown and its shades, black, dark grey.
Living room – colours used in living rooms should unleash positive energy, facilitate developing closer ties between relatives and friends, and enable you to have some rest and calm your mind. We should give up heavy curtains, objects that obstruct light, and glut of other things that cause an overwhelming feeling. Such interiors should be warm, cosy, and pleasant to facilitate relaxation and interesting discussions.
Recommended colours: shades of white, light shades of beige and orange, azure, and green.
We recommend:
Not recommended colours: dark grey, black.
Bedroom – most of us spend a third of our life in the bedroom. Evenings that we spend in our bedrooms are very important due to our need for relaxation, deep and uninterrupted sleep, and recovering after a day full of tension and stress. As bedrooms are supposed to fulfil our need for relax and regeneration, we recommend using colours that provide calm atmosphere and balance. For many of us, they are places for the most intimate matters. When in our bedroom, we are completely "naked" and free of any make up. Whispering and having intimate discussions before sleep, we can curl up, switch off our awareness and let the subconsciousness take the wheel. When we sleep, we can be easily hurt. Feng shui recommends locating bedrooms in the western part of the house if possible as this direction reduces stress and irritation. Beams, ledges, and object hanging over the bed should be avoided, such rooms should be characterised by harmony. There should be a wall behind your head to provide a sense of security. Mirrors reflect energy, thus they affect sleep and rest in a negative way. All sockets and electronics should be located as far from the bed as possible.
Recommended colours: light azure, pink (especially for young couples), light green and its shades. In general, light colours should be used. Keep in mind that saturated colours are energetic and stimulating.
We recommend:
Not recommended colours: orange, red (unless strong emotions and excitement is desired :)) Aggressive colours weaken relaxing and calming QI (life energy) – it affects the quality of sleep. For more intense colours, dark red is a good choice as it energises and does not distract (matt Eco 13, Murillo, and Murimal 200).
Kids' room – our children have unlimited supplies of energy. To provide them with proper care, we do not recommend energising colour combinations, not to mention overwhelming colours. Rooms where children spend most of their time should be painted in neutral, harmonious, and friendly colours in order to bring out their own inspiration.
Recommended colours: light shades of azure and green, warm tones.
We recommend:
Not recommended colours: shades of pink, grey, and black.
Study – requires serious, quiet, calm, and harmonious atmosphere to avoid interrupting and disrupting concept work. Avoid having the door in front of you, on your right, or on your left.
Recommended colours: shades of beige, brown, azure, green, and golden.
We recommend:
Not recommended colours: shades of red and yellow, bright tones.
Kitchen – refreshing pastels revive your kitchen, providing a perfect background for colourful fruit, vegetables, herbs, and food. Such interiors must be pure. As we are supposed to move freely there, try to avoid placing small objects in your kitchen that disturb a continuous energy flow. Any sharp objects should be kept in cupboards and drawers due to the adverse effects of killing energy. Shades of azure are not recommended as they diminish the flame of the cooker. Red is also not the best choice since flame is already a dominating element.
Recommended colours: shades of white, refreshing pastels.
Due to high presence of water vapour and multiple activities which may leave stains on the walls, we recommend:
Not recommended colours: shades of red, black, azure, and navy blue.
Dining room – balancing colours are recommended as they prevent us from eating excessively and quickly, providing calm and harmony. We should consume our meals when calm, and taking our time. Dining rooms should facilitate slowing down and create an atmosphere that would encourage us to eat slowly and with joy. However, it does not mean that we should feel sad or sleepy. Juicy palettes definitely whet our appetite. Round or oval tables made of wood or other natural materials are highly recommended for dining rooms.
Recommended colours: pastel azure and blue, shades of pink and green, and colours such as peach, apricot, corn, salmon.
Two ways of designing your kitchen are possible, depending on the desired effect:
1. To whet you appetite and add joy to mealtime – warm orange and derived warm shades
2. To consume your meals in quiet and calm atmosphere, reducing excessive eating – shades of blue and green.
The dining room is often a part of the kitchen, thus similar types and colours of products are recommended. It provides consistency and adds a finishing touch, excluding pure white.
Not recommended colours: shades of white, azure, navy blue, red, and black.
Bathroom – refreshing, pastel, light, and cool colours are a good choice as warm colours make interiors appear to be smaller than they really are. Such colours provide pure, clean, fresh, and light atmosphere, cooling down the interior. Bathrooms require good ventilation. Mirrors should not be placed opposite windows or doors as such design boosts their tendency to reflect and introduce disturbance.
Recommended colours: light azure, pink, green, and black combined with white.
We recommend water vapour permeable paints and plasters, appropriate for such rooms.
Not recommended colours: shades of brown, violet.
Library, rooms intended for studying – just like in studies, calm and harmonious atmosphere is recommended so that nothing disturbs us.
Recommended colours: azure, green, shades of brown.
We recommend:
Not recommended colours: shades of red and grey.
Rooms intended for praying and meditation are supposed to put us in a state of reverie, concentration, and elevation, enabling us to calm down and enter another state of conciousness. In such rooms we wish to find the right path, listening to an inner voice. They are also supposed to balance the mind, help us set ourselves goals and be able to talk to God.
Recommended colours: violet, beige, black, grey, green.
We recommend pearlescent paints and very subtle patterns:
Not recommended colours: shades of red.
Workplace – We open a store because we want people to be willing to come to us and purchase our goods or services. It is obvious that it should be located in an easily accessible place in a busy area. Our guiding principle differs from what we consider when seeking a quiet area to build a house. There are a few principles that we have to remember when preparing a workplace. Avoid locating your desk directly on the line that connects the door with the window. Try to have a wall behind your back. Putting an excessive amount of devices that emit energy affects our concentration and ability to perform concept work, may even lead to bad choices and decisions. Some deciduous plants may help you neutralise this energy. Locating the room in the eastern part of the house increases the ability to communicate. However, if the purpose of your business is sales, the room should be located in the southern part. When you share a room with your colleagues, put your desk in the north-west part – the QI present in this area improves your leadership and organisational skills. When designing rooms intended for working, try to avoid QI stagnation – strive to keep an order of large and small objects.
We recommend the following products in selected colours:
RECOMMENDED LOCATION OF ROOMS ACCORDING TO CARDINAL DIRECTIONS
EAST: kitchen, workplace, dining room, kids' room, bathroom.
This direction stimulates all kind of activity, improves optimism and self-confidence, and facilitates implementation of concepts. Excessive energy in these rooms may lead to lack of patience and setting the bar too high. This kind of energy is boosted with colours such as dirty white to cream, stabilised with light green, dark green, and navy blue, and weakened with purple.
WEST: bedroom (most recommended), living room, dining room.
Encourages better control over finances, provides romantic atmosphere, facilitates joy and entertainment, and reduces stress and irritation. If excessive and enhanced with colours, this energy may lead to spending large amounts of money (often recklessly) and lust for entertainment. This kind of energy is boosted with light colours such as white, yellow, and even brown, stabilised with shades of red and orange, and weakened with dirty white to cream colours.
NORTH: television room, bedroom.
North affects our creativity, independence, and internal development. When excessive, it may cause loneliness, unnecessary concerns, hesitation, and isolation. This kind of energy is boosted with colours such as orange to red and white to grey, stabilised with dirty white, and weakened with light green, dark green, and navy blue.
SOUTH: hall, workplace, living room.
Encourages passion, activity, and public recognition. However, it also causes stress, instability, and contentiousness. This kind of energy is boosted with colours such as light green, dark green, and navy blue, stabilised with purple, and weakened with glossy white, light shades of yellow, and brown.
Many individuals who live in our climate zone suffer from depression during dull seasons, especially between October and February. Such state is referred to as seasonal affective disorder. A sufficient amount of QI energy in our interiors may prevent it successfully. Warm and bright light is a major requirement. Whenever possible, try to let as much light into your house or flat as you can. Natural materials are recommended for finishing and furnishing interiors as they do not obstruct the energy flow. What is more, natural and eco-friendly paints and products should be used when coating and decorating walls. We offer a wide variety of natural materials that, among other features, enable the walls to breathe. Feng shui is known as an ancient art of planning that enables us to live in harmony with the natural environment.
The universe is a vast energy field, our bodies belong to the Earth's energy field and remain affected by it. Everybody has their own field that extends beyond the visible boundaries of the body. Due to its nature, energy is in constant motion. Thanks to our senses, we are able to perceive only the most obvious forms of motion such as traffic, wind, etc. However, we are not aware of more subtle vibrations which cannot be seen with the naked eye. Fortunately, nature equipped us with unfailing intuition that makes us feel in a certain way when we are in various locations, talk to people, or look at objects and situations that surround us. Our sensibility to energy motion changes and depends on multiple factors.
Intuition helps us perceive the reality around us correctly. Nature prepared us to use our instinct and react properly. It is only up to us whether we choose to listen to the voice from within and trust it. If you do not sleep well, wake up tired, stressed, and sleep does not give you rest without any physical or mental basis for such pathology, take a closer look at the location of your bed (whether there are no mirrors, ledges, beams, heavy decorations, curtains, dark and overwhelming colours, or no electronics close to your bed, check cardinal directions and location of windows, doors, etc.). Colour is crucial when it comes to energy flow. Proper colour composition can provide a desired final effect: revitalising, energising, relaxing, and calming. We need this knowledge to take advantage of the natural power of colours so as to design our households appropriately and feel better at home.
Keep in mind that harmony is a key element necessary to be well and enjoy long and healthy life.
